So many times throughout our lives as Christians, we get a worldview of the relationship between good and evil, right and wrong, God and the Devil. In ages past, most philosophies depict them as equal, a balance that sways back and forth, with victories on both sides and no clear winner. Modern-day Christians even get depressed, being overwhelmed with their eyes seeing the filth on every side. But this is not the picture given of God in the Bible.
Satan is not the Yin to God’s Yang.
While we may be living battles on a day-to-day basis, there really shouldn’t be any contest here. The struggle isn’t so much a struggle between God and Satan as it is a struggle between God and your own flesh. When it comes to God’s power there is no question. It’s what you are doing with that power that makes life so much more difficult, and makes sin seem so strong.
In 2 Kings 6:15-17 it says:
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
The numbers will always be on our side, because even without the angels, God is bigger than all of it.
In Revelation, when Christ comes to do battle, He brings an army with Him, but they don’t even do anything, because all Jesus has to do is speak.
The Bible says that his words are like a sword that slaughters his enemies.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
In Ephesians 1, Paul prays for the Ephesians that they would be made aware of the hope they have in Him, His power, of His position over everything, of how He fills us all as His children.
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
In Daniel 4 it says NONE can stay His
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
And in 1 Chronicles 29 it says that God is the One who gives riches, honour, power, might, greatness, and strength; also that He is over all.
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
The Bible makes it clear – there is NO contest, NO struggle. Satan has deluded himself, and we need to stop believing the lies he’s trying to feed us as well.
